Tips for Picking a Paint Color

Tips for Picking a Paint Color Picking the right colors for your room can be a dilemma... Painterati can help! Here are a few tips that can be helpful:

Get inspired

Whether you have a favorite color scheme, a favorite portrait, or you just really like a rug you see at the store, use those things to get ideas. Do you like bold colors? Or specific patterns? Take all of these things into consideration when you first start to pick a color.

Don't ignore your lighting

Lighting has a lot to do with what a color looks like when it's on your wall. Always be sure to consider what the color will look like under different types of lighting that you have in the room.

Remember the 60-30-10 rule:

60% dominant color, 30% secondary color, 10% accent color. A mixture of color can be gorgeous, but too many different colors or patterns can be exhausting to the eye.

Think about the mood of the room (and yourself)

Color does a lot to define the mood of a room. Do you want it to feel more soft or more energetic? This is where you can decide between more neutral colors or more vibrant, bright colors.

Remember: it's not forever!

You can always test a color on your wall with poster boards or swatches. If you end up painting and don't like it, you can always change it! Paint isn't forever, so don't fret it.
